Ode to Oodabug

What is an "Oodabug" you may ask? Well, when I was a wee-little girl (I mean just starting to talk kind of wee-little)my grandma had this ladybug magnet on her fridge that I just LOVED. I would stand in front of the fridge and point up at it and say in my raspy little toddler voice "Oo, da bug". I was allowed to hold it since that's all I did. . .I would hold it and look at it, not try to put it in my mouth like most toddlers would. The most I would do is try to pick off it's dots. Everyone in the family thought it was so cute but odd since the ladybug wasn't very colorful or pretty at all. It was wooden, and pieces of the wood had chipped off here and there. (I didn't do it!) But I LOVED that ladybug magnet. Everyone in my family has called ladybugs "oodabugs" ever since then. Finally, at my wedding shower (twenty-some years later), I opened a gift from my grandma and it was my "oodabug". I came across it last night, which inspired my card and post for today. As you can see in the picture, she has been well-loved! :) So now you have the story as to why my blog is entitled "Oodabug Alley".

Thanks for telling us about the oodabug. That is so cute! I love your card. Visiting your blog is bad for me. I want all those non SU stamps.

Oh, this is just a darling card...and such a delightful story. When I was little, on the way to my grandmas house there was this teepee village that had rocks painted like ladybugs (14 if I remember correctly!) and I could hardly wait the entire 4 hour drive to pass the ladybugs and count them all!

What a great story! And what a sweet and thoughtful grandma! I think that would have been my all-time favorite gift if it had been me. A lot of meaning and love in that one!

I love ladybugs, always have. This week a friend has been asking me about my stamping (she's never done it) and I have invited her to a SU art camp I'm going to tonight. She wants to stamp ladybugs, it's what she collects. I am sending her a link to your blog so she can read this special story. What a special lady your grandmother must be to save that for you all these years! Oh, and I LOVE the card, too!!!

Can I still blame getting teary eyed about a touching story from a complete stranger on pregnancy hormones even though my son is 10 months old? No? O.k. That means I'm just an emotional nerd...my dh was right...
Beautiful card and wonderful story! Bravo!
